CHECK OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING ON FARM

Olive Harvest

July  18, 2023

Greetings from Garryowen!

We are thrilled to share the latest update on our much-anticipated olive picking harvest in July. The Mediterranean climate has been kind to us, nurturing our olive trees throughout the year, and the time had finally come to harvest the fruits of our labor.

As the sun rose over the picturesque landscape of the farm, our dedicated Josh and us from afar eagerly waited with excitement and anticipation. The olive groves, adorned with their silvery-green foliage, stretched out as far as the eye could see, promising a bountiful yield.

Harvesting olives is both an art and a labor of love. With our gentle mechanical olive picker, Rio Vista Olives harvester carefully picked the ripe olives from the branches, ensuring their quality and taste remain uncompromised. The experienced team at Rio Vista Olives and Kent Hallet from Riverton have shared their wisdom and techniques, making it a wonderful learning experience for everyone involved.

After two days of hard work and dedication, we were rewarded with an abundant harvest. The crates were filled to the brim with plump and juicy olives, a testament to the care we put into nurturing our trees throughout the year..... oh and the extra boost of our naturally falling all purpose low nitrogen fertiliser thanks to the resident Poll Hereford bulls that live in this paddock.

As we press on with the olive oil extraction process, we are excited to create our signature extra virgin olive oil, known for its rich flavor and nutritional benefits. The pressing process ensures the preservation of all the natural goodness of the olives, resulting in a product that is nothing short of exceptional.

In addition to our delightful olive oil, we are also exploring creative uses for the remaining olives, such as pickling and olive-based beauty products. Our commitment to sustainability drives us to make the most of every resource we have.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this successful harvest. Your support and enthusiasm fuel our passion for farming, and we look forward to sharing the fruits of our labor with you all.

Stay tuned for more updates on our farm's journey and the exciting projects we have in store. Until next time, remember to savor the simple pleasures that nature offers, just like the goodness of freshly picked olives.

With love and gratitude,

The Garryowen Team
